Dr. Najam Chishti - Prince Edward Island’s Most Qualified Table Tennis Official

Dr. Chishti has been involved with Table Tennis for more than 40 years.  His children have all played the sport with Shelha Chishti winning a SILVER medal in table tennis for PEI in the 1987 Canada Winter Games held in Sydney, NS.   Dr. Chishti has been involved as a parent, a coach , an administrator and an elite official.

In 1987, Dr. Chishti embarked on Table Tennis Canada’s pathway to become an elite official.  He passed his National Umpire exam in 1991 and after years of training and practice he wrote the International Umpire exam in 2001 and received his IU credentials.  His first International tournament was in Santiago Chile in 2003 followed by a litany of events from local, Provincial, National and International events.  The following are just a few of the events.

Dr. Chishti continues to set goals for himself .  His first goal is to become a Blue Badge Umpire recognized by the International Table Tennis Federation as an elite official.  His second goal is to officiate at an Olympic Games.

Dr. Chishti has been recognized for his dedication and commitment to sport by a variety of organizations at the local, Provincial and National Level.  Some of the awards include:
