2012 Canada Junior And Cadet Open

Junior Boys Team
Canada’s team of Hongtao Chen and James Pintea places first in their preliminary round group without giving up a game to the visiting teams from Argentina and Korea.

In the main draw semi-finals, Chen and Pintea beat fellow Canadians Max Xia and Vincent Rousseau-Emond.  At 6PM on Friday they will compete with the team from Chinese Taipei for the top prize.
 

Junior Girls Team
The group stage of the Junior Girls team event is still underway Friday evening.  In the best shape right now is the combination team Hong Kong/Whales, but Canada’s Team 1 is close behind with 2 wins and 1 loss.  However, Korea also has a 2-1 record and will face Canada’s Team 1 Friday evening. 
 
 

Junior Boys Singles

Chen Hongtao emerged unbeaten in the first phase of the Junior Boys’ Singles event at the Scotiabank Canadian Junior and Cadet Open in Markham on Thursday 4th October 2012.  In the group stage Chen defeated Aaron Wilson (Trinidad) and Jeremy Hazin (Canada) in straight games.  Chen will face Theodore Tran (USA) in the KO stage, the winner advancing to the quarterfinals.  

James Pintea (Canada) and Mathieu Theriault (Canada) also advance to the main draw, winning their respective groups without giving up a game.  Pintea will meet Pablo Saragovi (Argentina) in the first KO stage.  Theriault meets Marco Medjugorac (Canada). 

Jeremy Lau, Max Xia, Alexander Moran, Jeremy Hazin, Vincent Rousseau-Emond, and Xuebo Li also will compete in the main draw.

 Matches for the main draw start on Friday at 10:45AM EST 

 

Cadet Boys 

Jeremy Hazin finishes first in Group C after upsetting no. 3 seed Kunal Chodri of USA (3-1).   Hazin receives a bye in the first round of the main draw, and will face the winner of Xuebo Li and Alexander Moran for a spot in the semis. 

Filip Ilijevski finishes second in his division, after being just 2-points away from upsetting Theodore Tran (USA) in Group E.   In the first round of the main draw Ilijevski plays Howard Tong (USA) who has been having a good tournament so far.
