Announcing the *New* Super Circuit Series for High Performance Competition

The ***SUPER CIRCUIT is the newest development in high-level competition in Canada.   In a collaboration between the Ontario Table Tennis Association (OTTA) and the Quebec Table Tennis Federation (QTTF), the SUPER CIRCUIT promotes TTCAN’s Long Term Athlete Development model, and provides a new arena for top players and for developing players of different skill levels to compete.

The SUPER CIRCUIT offers a competition system mainly based on skill rather than age; the SC offers athletes and coaches competitions of high-importance for which they can test their individual match preparation; and offers good playing conditions with qualified officials and time-scheduled matches.

The SUPER CIRCUIT consists of 4 tournaments, with 2 events taking place in the Montreal area and 2 events taking place in the Greater Toronto area. Tournaments start on Saturday 9 am and finish (three Super Circuit categories) not later than 4pm on Sunday.

Each event will have competition in 3 categories: Open Men, Open Women and U2700 . The first event will also feature a Junior event. This circuit will not replace the current Quebec and Ontario Circuits, but will enhance the two circuits by designating these categories as *** competitions according to Table Tennis Canada’s new Star Rating competition system. Both the QTTF and the OTTA will continue their regular “Circuit” competitions, which will remain as ** events.

The SUPER CIRCUIT is open to all players who are members of an ITTF affiliated association. In addition to prizes earned for podium positions in a single category, the SUPER CIRCUIT events will publish a cumulative point standing; the top finishers at the end of the Super Circuit season (4 events) will be awarded prize money.

By adopting the standards of a *** competition and the increased rating points exchange, the SUPER CIRCUIT provides an arena for high-performance competition, and an opportunity for evaluation for coaches and athletes as part of their annual training program.

Table Tennis Canada will support the Super Circuit with administration and competition balls. “This is a step to reinstate a National Circuit,” hopes Tony Kiesenhofer, TTCAN’s Director General. “With the Circuit in operation, it should be possible to recruit a sponsor to help cover some of the cost of a National Circuit, and – most importantly – to re-establish a national competition structure that provides coaches and athletes a platform to test and improve their skills.”
